Stimulated by the development in the German health care system in the 90ies, Dr. Jörg Rehwald has recognized the potential of access regulation at the use of Chip Cards (Smart Cards) and as electronic health card in Germany and in case of emergency / rescue very early. These patent registrations have been extended and further developed together with Holger Vajen and with Karl-Heinz Witt, who form the core management team today. For the access regulation he has registered international patents and brought these to Onismed AG.

Besides of contacts to persons with a high impact on the German health-care system, many international contacts were established in addition. It is shown that there is high interest not only to restrict the fields of applications of access regulation to a eGK but rather to use a MFC multifunctional card (= the Medatrans Card).

We see the „German“ eGK as essential component in the development of a MFC (Multi-Functional Card) which also without existing telematic infrastructure – as planned to start in Germany – has to come into use in an “offline” or “semi-online” variant. That is why we have concentrated our considerations on the development and use of only one offline (MFC) card – at least in a first concept phase.
